One of my favorite Vlad shorts of all time. And that's saying something. The use of dress color is evocative yet effective in establishing the characters, who never speak. Aaron Toney, the badass big boss in red. Mickey's heroine is easy to root for and Amy carries herself with a real sense of self confidence. I also appreciated Xin's mini boss character, clearly a lover of violence and challenging fights. I do wish I had a little more back story on what is going on, exactly. But the storytelling is simple and told well through the fighting. Great stuff.

A classic 3 for all turns into an exciting 4 way fight with racial implications. This is a really fun short film, with great action. The second fight is great too it's just too short for me to rate any higher. The characters are fun and there's also a great motorcycle kick spot. Great stuff.

These are great. Caitlin carries herself very well in these, exuding an aura of physical dominance. Mickey is always so easy to root for. Her small stature yet clear ability serves well for the plucky underdog character. Gui's character is great too, as the boss who's too strong to break a sweat on anyone, with an artifact of power, his white umbrella. Very anime, I dig it. I want more.

Yo Soy Un Hombre Loco (2011)

House Fight: 2.75/5

Number 1 vs Number 2: 4/5


You know, it's weird. Shawn vs Manny is great, and I can tell they tried to make their fight as good as possible. I just feel like they have a better 1 on 1 fight in them. They're LBP's best, but I feel there were certain things about the fight that could've been better. Their offensive transitions didn't really utilize counters, more just the other one not blocking. And a lot of the choreo felt basic, for guys of such high caliber

I don't want to be a negative Nancy on this. I gave it 4/5, it's still great. It's beautifully shot, backdropped with great music and location. The speed and power of the hits sold well. And Manny's character arc through the fight is a well told story. I still feel these 2 have a better fight in them, though. I shall wait for it patiently.

If you're unfamiliar with LBP, this is still a dope place to start.

Naruto Shipudenn Dreamer's Fight (2012)

Great stuff. Tributes can be tricky but Thousand Pounds pulled it off. Lee's Drunken Style in live action could only be pulled off by a talent like Brendon Huor.

One of my favorite martial arts short films. Everything about it is on point. It's such a cohesive narrative and the storytelling of the fighting is terrific. Truly a work of art. Dardrex's best project to date.

Rope A Dope 2 - Return of the Martial Arts Mafia (2015)

Honestly, I thought the first Rope a Dope was my favorite short action film of all time. This might've surpassed it. Exceeding my already lofty expectations, Rope a Dope 2 takes a great concept and escalates it even more. Also, it's hilarious. The broken bottle gag near the end I've rewatched almost as much as the fights. And the fights are, of course, superb. Eric and Dennis are like this generation's Yuen Biao and Dick Wei, such awesome chemistry between the two. Their duel in this short is actually different than their previous ones. I could watch them fight forever (though I'm hoping if there's a third installment their characters will team up). I'm out of superlatives. Just watch this. HIGHLY Recommended

Mister a.k.a. Xian Sheng (2015)

They're back! Sweet. The first Young Masters project to be released since I had the pleasure of meeting Lorenz on my birthday two Decembers back. A tribute to "The Man From Nowhere", which is awesome in its own right, the brothers bring an even greater martial ability to their tribute to that film. Recommended.

I liked this final installment. I wish the finale had gone a bit longer, but they did a good job of making it feel epic in a short amount of time. They also didn't have access to a lot of their cast frm earlier installments, and they made it work. Not as good as Part 3, or even Part 2 I would say, but a solid end to the series. Recommended.

Mario Warfare Part 8 (2014)

Toad's back! Brian Lee straight up kicks ass. The final installment of this franchise is satisfying and filled with action. Recommended.

The fight in the forest is one of the greatest fight scenes I've ever seen. And the underground fight is also good. The Young Masters fucking rule.

From Man to Man Vol. 2 (2013)

Brendon vs Vonzell: 4.75/5

One of the best fights of 2013, and one of the greatest fights I've ever seen. The fluidity and intricacy of the sequences are phenomenal. Love love love it.

TMNT Style: Epic Rival (Thousand Pounds, 2014)

Fight Scene: 3.75/5


Great stuff here. I'm not as big a fan of weapons fights, but the fighting was very good here. Not just the choreography, but the pacing and expression of each turtle's personality through just the fighting was terrific. Great music choice, too. Even the casting of all 4 turtles is on point. Only wish it were longer.

Special ID (Flash Point/SPL) (2014)

Fight Scene: 3.75/5


Much better than their Raid tribute, I dug this fight. My main qualm was that the choreography felt a bit repetitive towards the end. But overall lots of great stuff. Good exchanges, a nice sequence leading into a triangle choke, and some flashy kicks. Better than any of the solo fights in Special ID.

The Raid 2: Berandal Tribute (by EMC Monkeys, 2014)

Good effort by EMC, but I've seen them do much better. Of course it's difficult to try to pull off an homage to another style. But I was expecting a bit more. Not a bad fight by any means, just nothing special.

Mario Warfare Part 7 (2014)

Peach vs Wario: 3.25/5

Mario vs Waluigi: 4/5


Getting Eric Jacobus to play Waluigi was a terrific idea. It produces the best fight of the series so far and maybe my favorite video game character live action fight ever. Waluigi looks like an absolute beast the whole fight. Utilizing Wing Chun punches and stellar kicks, Waluigi makes Mario look outclassed for the first time in the series.

I also want to note that the fight between Peach and Wario is surprisingly good. If it weren't for Eric's performance in this episode I'd still have a new favorite fight of the series in Peach vs Wario. A lot of emotion, drama and some of the exchanges caught me off guard with how good they were. In terms of storytelling it might be the best of the series so far.

So in all, yeah this is my favorite episode of the series to date. Two major fights that deliver exactly as they should, or even better. And looking forward to the next.
